Will we be together?
Five cards to look at both people's feelings, the bond between you, what stands in the way, and how the relationship may unfold.
People usually ask “will we be together?” when a connection is already there: new, long-running, or left unfinished. The spread looks at both people’s feelings, at what actually holds the two of you together, at where the friction is, and at the direction the relationship may take if the present dynamic continues.
About the Will we be together? spread
The point here is not one card, and not a general romantic atmosphere. It is about the dynamic between two particular people. Five positions cover your emotional tone, the other person’s response, what keeps you near each other, what blocks closeness, and the likely direction of the bond. The same layout can be read for a relationship just starting, for the period after a quarrel, or for a long period of uncertainty in which neither of you has defined the relationship.
The cards may point to mutual feeling, to different paces, to a strong attachment without much readiness to build a life together, or to an obstacle that currently outweighs the feeling. They do not name a date, and they do not promise that the relationship will take the shape you want. Possible development is a direction: where things may be heading if both of you stay in the same pattern.
For one person’s thoughts and intentions on their own, use the What does he feel about me? spread. When the question is already about a break and the chance of contact again, Will he come back? is the better fit. A wider set of love questions is gathered under Readings for love and relationships.
What the five positions show
Your feelings is the first position. It shows what you bring into the connection: warmth, hope, jealousy, fatigue, a willingness to invest, or a need to settle the question at any cost. His feelings is the second position. That emotional tone may match yours, or it may be quite different: interest without hurry, attachment that stays unspoken, a cooling off, fear of closeness.
The third card answers What connects you. That can be mutual attraction, a shared history, daily life together, a conversation that was never finished, habit, dependence, or a sense of “us” even when you rarely meet. The fourth, What gets in the way, shows what blocks the relationship: different paces, things left unsaid, pressure from outside, other people, distrust, practical circumstances.
Possible development is the fifth position. Read it last, and only with the four cards before it. A warm card in either feelings position does not cancel a strong obstacle. A weak or uncertain card in What connects you, followed by a more settled fifth position, can suggest that the outlook depends on a decision rather than on closeness that is already established. These five positions belong to this layout. They are not a template for every five-card spread.
Questions you can ask
A direct question belongs here. Name the person and the stage of the bond: it has only just started, you already live together, or you have been on pause for a long time. The wording shifts the emphasis. It does not decide whether you may ask about the future of the relationship.
- Will we be together?
- Is there a future in this relationship?
- How might our relationship develop?
- What is happening between us right now?
- What is getting in the way of us being together?
If one question mixes jealousy, daily life, and a wish to marry, the reading loses focus. Choose one focus: the outlook for the relationship, the reason for the distance, or where the bond is moving in the near term.
How to read the five cards
Start by comparing the two feeling cards. When they are close in meaning, the emotional tone appears broadly mutual. When one card is open and the other closed or in conflict, the relationship may depend on whether your different paces can be reconciled, not only on mutual liking. Then look at the connecting card and the obstacle: what actually holds you, and what weakens or complicates that connection.
The fifth card does not erase the others. A card of coming closer in Possible development, beside a heavy obstacle, more often describes a path that may open than a path that is already clear. A pause in that position, with warmth in the earlier cards, can describe closeness postponed, not the end of interest. Read the five cards as one story of the relationship, not as five separate verdicts.
