What awaits me?

A spread on what is unfolding next and the possible shifts in your situation.

What awaits me? looks at a situation that has already begun: what is happening in it now, what is drawing nearer, and what may deserve your attention. It is a short forecast in three positions, focused on a situation already in progress rather than on the future in general.

About the What awaits me? spread

Use this layout when you want a clearer view of a situation that is already underway: work, a move, a conversation, a decision, the period after a change. The three cards describe where things stand, what is coming closer, and something you may overlook if you focus only on the outcome you want. Set the time frame yourself: the next few weeks, a month, a particular stage of the matter.

The spread does not map out the years ahead. For a longer span, a more detailed layout is the better choice. What it shows is the likely course of events already underway. The direction can change if you make a different choice, if someone new enters, or if a deadline shifts.

For a broader look at future-oriented readings, see Readings about the future. If you need a line from the origin of the situation to a possible outcome, open Past, present, future. For a complicated story with several influences, the Celtic Cross is a better fit. This page stays with the three positions of this spread.

What the three cards show

The first card is The current situation. It marks the point you are at: strain, waiting, momentum, a stall, a need to choose. It is not the past, and it is not the outcome. It is the starting point for what may develop next.

The second card is What is approaching. It shows movement that is already gathering force: a conversation, an opening, a complication, clarity, a meeting, a pause. “Approaching” does not always mean tomorrow. More often it is where the situation is heading unless a significant decision or change alters its course.

The third card is What to watch. It does not repeat the forecast. It points to a condition, risk, or resource that helps put the second card in context. Sometimes that is an inner state, sometimes an outside detail, sometimes a question that has not been asked aloud. Together the three positions run “where you are, what is coming closer, what not to miss.” They are not Past, Present, and Future.

Questions you can ask

A question about what comes next belongs here when it has a frame. “What awaits me in general” scatters the three cards. “What awaits me with this project over the next month” gathers them.

  • What awaits me?
  • How might events develop?
  • What might happen in the near term?
  • What should I be watching?
  • How might the current situation change?

How to read the sequence

Read the cards from left to right as one line. Name where things stand, then what is building, and only then the condition in the third position. If the second card looks favourable and the third carries a warning, the development may still be positive but require care or attention. If the current situation is heavy and what is approaching is gentler, the reading may be describing a shift, not a background that has already vanished.

Do not turn the third card into separate advice about life in general. It belongs to this situation and to what is approaching. The three cards indicate a tendency and a likely direction. They do not lock an event into happening in exactly one way.
